Dreaming of: San Francisco

Last year about this time my husband and I took a trip to San Francisco. Seeing the spring flowers in the city by the bay and visiting its over-the-top flower markets is something I’ve always wanted to do. It was a glorious trip, even if it did rain half the time.

I carried our Rice-A-Roni mascot to all the sights: The Golden Gate Bridge, Lombard Street, and the best way to see any city – a double decker bus tour.

We visited the San Francisco Conservatory of Flowers. It has an amazing variety of plants from all over! I was especially impressed with the giant fern fronds, the beautiful orchids and the spiky air plants.

We trolled around the San Francisco Flower Mart and found bubble gum pink cymbidium orchids, fluffy hydrangea, variegated azaleas and plump succulents.

Some of the most fun was visiting Flora Grubb Gardens whom I follow all the way from the East Coast. She has great style and innovative landscape and floral designs. Our cab driver was so impressed he parked the car and walked around too!

We found colorful patio furniture, planted vehicles, a hanging bike topped with air plants, and of course Flora’s shop cat :)

We ended our trip with a sunrise ferry ride from the Port of San Francisco to Napa Valley. We sampled the wine, bought the Pinot Noir and pet Hagafen Cellars cat!
